Mind-blowing Gas Info
Jul 16th, 2007 by Scott Hebert
I came across this Gasoline Price History the other day, and frankly I was pretty amazed. The graph I’ve included shows the price for super-unleaded gas in Texas from 1979 to 2007. The thing I found most incredible is that the price of regular gasoline was in the $1.00 range as recently as 2000.
To me it feels like we’ve been over $2.00 for a really long time, but that’s just not the case. According to this data, super-unleaded gasoline didn’t reach the $2.00 mark in Texas until 2004!
Everyone I’ve talked to so far has been astounded at how recently gas came over $1.00 and how quickly it has shot up. This just goes to show you how used to something we can get.
When I was delivering pizzas for Papa John’s in 2003 (the last of my many pizza stints), I recall the price of gas reaching $1.50 (for “regular”)…I was enraged! Then I moved to Boston where I didn’t own a car. Imagine my surprise when I bought a car after two years of non-car!
I bet your mind was BLOWN!
