Yoono Beta Begins
Jun 3rd, 2008 by Scott Hebert
That sure didn’t take long. I signed up for the private Yoono beta a couple of days ago and got my invitation this morning.

Yoono acts like a sidebar in Firefox. As you can see in the image below, there is a button to send the Yoono sidebar into “thin mode.” You can also click the Yoono button next to the address bar (not shown) to hide the Yoono bar completely for that window.
If you’re not a fan of the sidebar action (I’m not), you can put individual parts of Yoono into “window mode.” In window mode, you can drag the pane all over your desktop and drop it wherever you want.
So far, I’ve only turned on Twitter. I can also add other social networks like Facebook or Flickr, as well as the major instant messaging platforms.
Unlike the Twitter web page or any of the stand alone Twitter apps (I use twhirl), Yoono does not scroll updates in a stream. Instead, you see each of your contacts and the last message they posted. Although an audio alert lets you know when someone has posted, I haven’t seen an easy way to distinguish who posted, so it’s sort of hard to keep up with what’s going on.
That’s enough to get started. Have fun!
Looks interesting. I’ve signed up for the private beta.
